9 Things you need to know before travelling to Ibiza.
Get ready for summer 2016!
The island of Ibiza is chosen by more than 3 million tourists each year. It is an amazing destination for families and for a holiday with friends. I don’t have to tell you that you will find lots of people, that you’ll need sunscreen or that the beaches will be quite full, do I?
However, there are some other things that make Ibiza a very peculiar place, and to spend the best of holidays, there are some things you must know before coming to the white island:
1. Ibiza is an ideal destination for families. The island was chosen best family holiday destination in 2015 by the British magazine Family Traveller. Its beaches with calm water, food and quality restaurants and its nature reserves are several arguments that make it a privileged place.
2. Heat, a lot of it. And you’ll say, yeah! That’s exactly what we want! But bear in mind that Ibiza is a very humid island. So try to stay near a pool or by the sea to refresh yourself when the sun gets too strong. The good thing, on a funny note, is that you won’t need to shower because you’ll be soaked as soon as you get out of the shower! 😉
3. Get ready to hear a language that may sound odd, it’s neither Spanish nor Catalan, it’s “Ibicenco”. It is the second language of Ibiza (the first is Spanish) spoken by all the locals. But don’t worry, they all speak Spanish and even English and other languages.
4. The third point leads to the fourth: Get ready to hear very little Spanish if you stay in San Antonio. This area is known for housing a majority of English speakers so you will be addressed in English in every bar and restaurant.
5. Public transport is scarce. A car is absolutely necessary if you want to enjoy your holiday to the fullest and go to remote beaches, even more so if you’re travelling with your family.
6. Clubs are expensive. Between the taxi, the entrance and the drinks, don’t be alarmed if you spend around 100 Euros! Rest assured it will be the best night ever!
7. Most shops and markets open until 11 pm. Nothing better than going for a walk along the harbour of Ibiza after sunset, spending all Wednesday at the Hippy Market in Es Canar, the oldest and largest of the island, or go shopping for party clothes.
8. If you are travelling with children, be prepared to listen to Ollie’s CD over and over again in the car, they love it! And I know what I’m talking about. Four of the azuLine hotels are family friendly hotels with kids club and first rate animation teams that your children will not forget. And they’ll also remember Ollie until you come back next year!
9. You’ll realise when you’re here but if you spend your holidays in Ibiza, you must visit Formentera, the other Pitiusa island. A day trip will be enough, but Formentera is a not-to-be-missed stop.
Now that I have warned you, you can come with all the confidence and the equipment that you need to visit the White Isle. Enjoy! 🙂
